Black and White

Black and white photography is something that scares me. It scares me because i am always unsure on when to use it. I do not want to continuously shoot in black and white as this seems to be a common trend of many amature photographers. It is an effect and needs to be used when appropriate. Up to this point, i have always taken photos in colour and then converted to black and white. This is partially because i am shooting with a digital camera and the choice does not need to be made immediatly, but also because it allows me to choose if i like a picture in colour or black and white. Having this decition however does not allow me to take photos with a black and white result in mind.

Today i set out to take a black and white set of photos of bath. The photographs that i took were (as always) taken in colour, however before previewing any of the photographs on the computer, i converted all of the photographs to black and white and then chose the ones i liked. I have not yet looked at the colour photographs and i do not intend to.  This is my first ever 100% set of black and white photographs and i am very pleased with the result.

If anyone reading this would like to give me there input on black and white photgraphy and there approaches to this subject, i would love to hear from you. Please contact me via the contact page, or if your comments are specific to a particular photo, please leave a comment.
